A Mountain With Snow

Peak Goals

We staked our claim as the highest rack railway in the world in June 1891 and we’ve kept our standards high ever since. That’s why we’ve taken the last three years to rebuild the Cog Railway and bring it into the future with new life: new trains, new track, new depot, new Pikes Peak Visitor Center. The views and the beauty of the mountain never change, but this is a whole new adventure.

A Red Train In The Middle Of A Forest

One of a Kind

This is the world’s highest and the world’s longest cog railroad, the highest railroad in the United States and the entire Northern Hemisphere, in fact. One of only two cog railways in the country, but the only one that takes you to the summit of America’s Mountain, one of the most famous mountains in the United States.

The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is one of the most unique experiences in the country. We’re moving forward with an exciting, entertaining, all-new experience that is modern, safe and more comfortable than ever. Train ride, yes, but this is an adventure experience that is so much more than just a journey on the train.

All Aboard

Although the physical and structural changes are the most obvious, this is more than upgrading to state-of-the-art equipment and top-notch infrastructure. There are people you’ll meet along the way who help get you to the summit and make your journey complete. From staff who have been here for years to the train conductors who point out interesting sights and entertain you with history, stories, and maybe a few tall tales as the train makes its way up the mountain, this is a vibrant and personal journey that turns an ordinary train ride into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Broadmoor 2

The Broadmoor Family

For the Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, adventure comes second nature to us as part of the Broadmoor family, the luxury resort in Colorado Springs with a spirit of adventure. Since opening their doors more than a century ago, The Broadmoor has been an incredible way to experience the unique beauty of the American West. Known for its warm, genuine hospitality and five-star service, The Broadmoor sets the bar high and that level of service carries over to the Cog.

In 1926, Spencer Penrose, the owner of The Broadmoor, purchased the Cog Railway from Mr. Zalmon Simmons, who first rode to the summit of Pikes Peak on a mule and later built the railway. The Cog is in fine company with Broadmoor Outfitters, Seven Falls, Soaring Adventures, the Wilderness Experiences, and The Broadmoor’s sister property, Sea Island, on the beautiful coast of Georgia as a collection of one-of-a-kind experiences.
