Are the seats assigned?
Yes. We have a software program that assigns the seats for us..

Can I pick my seats?
Unfortunately you cannot pick your seats and the ticket agents are unable to move seats once they are assigned.

Is the train wheelchair accessible?
Yes. If you require a wheelchair on the train, please call the Ticket Office at (719) 685-5401 and let the ticket agents know.

Are there restrooms on board the train?
There are no restrooms on board the train. The only restrooms on the mountain are located at the Depot before you board and at the Summit House on top.

How far in advance should I reserve my trip?
It is generally recommended that you make reservations 3-5 days in advance of your planned trip.

Is there a cancellation policy?
Yes. There is a $5 cancellation fee per ticket if cancelling at least 24 hours in advance; if under 24 hours you forfeit your entire fee.. For more information on this, please check our POLICIES tab under Rates & Times.

Do I have to prepay when making my reservation?
Yes, we require a full prepayment of your reservation in order to hold it. Please have a valid credit or debit card nearby when making reservations.

Is there any free parking around the Depot?
No, all of the parking in and around the Depot is $5 per car, $20 per RV/trailer. The City of Manitou does run a shuttle in mid-summer.

Can I bring my own food and drinks on board the train?
Sorry, no. You are more than welcome to purchase food at the Market and take it on board the train with you.

Are bikes allowed on board the train?
No. There is not enough room to store a bike on the train.  However, you can check with Pikes Peak Mountain Bike Tours or Challenge Unlimited to ride the train up and bike down the Pikes Peak Highway.

Are pets allowed on board the train?
No, we cannot allow pets on board the train.

Can I bring a stroller with me?
Unfortunately, there is not enough space to a fit a stroller on the train.

Is the train heated?
No. However, the engines underneath the train keep the inside temperature between 50 and 60 degrees.

Take exit #141 (US 24/Cimarron Street) off I-25 and go west (towards the mountains) on US 24/Cimarron Street. After 4 miles, take the Manitou Springs exit onto Manitou Avenue. Go west on Manitou Avenue, 1½ mile to the traffic circle. At the traffic circle, take the second right onto Ruxton Avenue – please note the Mountain Man shop, which denotes Ruxton Ave. Go ¾ of a mile to the top of Ruxton Ave. The Depot is on the left and parking is to the right.


Take exit #141 (US 24/Cimarron Street) off I-25 and go west (towards the mountains) on US 24/Cimarron St approximately 5 miles. Continue PAST the 1st Manitou Avenue Exit about 1 mile to the stoplight at the Cave of the Winds exit. Turn left at the Cave of the Winds stoplight, away from the entrance to the Cave and veer right down the steep hill (Serpentine Drive). There will be a sharp left hairpin turn, but continue down the road to the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. At the traffic circle, take the second right onto Manitou Ave. Go east (away from the mountains) about ½ mile to the next traffic circle. Take the first right at the traffic circle (past the Mountain Man shop) onto Ruxton Avenue. Go ¾ mile to the top of Ruxton Ave. The Depot is on the left and parking is to the right.


When using a GPS, you will sometimes be routed along the back roads of Manitou Springs, which are very narrow, curvy, and steep. If you are driving a large vehicle, it is possible that you might get stuck on these back roads. It might be in your best interest to STAY ON MANITOU AVENUE until you get to Ruxton Avenue.



A parking pass is REQUIRED to park on the Manitou & Pikes Peak Railway Co. property. There is a free shuttle available in mid-summer which runs from the East side of Manitou Springs to a stop about a block below the Railway station. You are welcome to utilize this alternative means of transportation. See the route and times.


Incline parking is available from dawn until dusk but MAY be restricted on busy days when the  Pikes Peak Cog Railway needs parking for Railway customers.

There is a 3 hour parking limit. Cars left unattended after 3 hours will be towed.

A valid credit card is required to purchase a $10 parking pass. Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash.

If you are hiking and using the train, we recommend getting here early enough to use Barr Trail parking OR use the free Manitou Springs shuttle.



Unfortunately, we CANNOT accommodate any vehicle (excluding motor coach tours) longer than 35 feet in total length from June 20th through August 20th. This includes towed vehicles, RVs, 5th wheels, tractors, and/or trailers, etc. Please note the free shuttle option above if this restriction applies to you.
